Fall Weddings

Have you ever wondered why your parents suggested a fall wedding? Well, in the past, most weddings were made starting with mid-September, when all work in the field was done, after all fruits were collected, so the bride and groom can arrange for a rich wedding, blessed with the new harvest.

Autumn brides should look for cream and off-white dresses with gold beading and accents. Bridesmaids will look wonderful in jeweltone dresses; match the groomsmen’s vests to their dresses. Look at rich fabrics such as brocades and velvets for a luxurious touch.

Remember that weather in the fall can be tricky, it will be hard to know long in advance whether your wedding day will be warm or chilly. I suggest that the bride and bridesmaids wear strapless dress with capelets, stoles or wraps. On a warm day, the overlayer can be easily removed, but you won’t be left shivering on a chilly day.

When it comes to decorating for a fall wedding, think about reflecting the majesty of the nature around you. Boughs of foliage, clusters of grapes, decorative pumpkins and beautiful fall flowers combine to create a magical look that’s rich and romantic.

Coordinate your wedding decorations with the colors of your flowers. Try a solid tablecloth, then add a beautiful centerpiece. Spray paint miniature pumpkins and decorative gourds with gold paint for a luxurious look, then arrange them in a pretty crystal bowl or rustic wicker basket. Another centerpiece idea is to hollow out pumpkins and use them to hold arrangements of autumn-inspired flowers.

Candles also make great focal points for any table. Try scooping out a pumpkin or gourd to accommodate the candle of your choice. Or, try pretty bowls filled with water and add floating candles that look like fall leaves
Great fall wedding flower arrangements and bouquets can include mums, daisies, sunflowers, roses, yarrow, sprays of silk autumn leaves and even sheaths of rustic wheat. When choosing your wedding colors and the colors of your flowers, go for shades that reflect the beauty of the season.

The hottest trend in fall wedding flowers is lush, richly hued arrangements with lots of interesting texture. Instead of using just two or three types of blooms in your centerpieces, try a wide mix of flowers coordinated with your color scheme. For example, you could start with a base of classic flowers and mix in feathery crocosmia and velvety coxcomb. Or you could add non-floral accents such as viburnum or hypericum berries, lotus pods, fiddlehead ferns, or wooly lamb’s ear leaves to make the arrangements more remarkable.

When it comes to fall weddings, picking out your wedding favors is very easy. If you don’t want to go with the traditional almonds, wrap seasonal fruit in tissue for a sweet (and healthful) gift for guests. Have an office-supply store make a rubber stamp with your names, wedding date, and a drawing or clip-art illustration (the entire design should be 3 inches in diameter or smaller). Stamp image onto squares of tissue paper. Cut off stems, center fruit on tissue, wrap, and twist.
