Wedding dresses are most of the times designed according to the same patterns that have been circulating in the bridal fashion industry for way too long to be ignored, but there are patterns to describe the wedding traditions that belong to other countries, such as it is the Indian wedding dress or Chinese wedding dress.


While the latter is described more by the wearing of a traditional kimono, the first one is includes various alternatives, all of them belonging to the traditional style of an Indian bride .

Indian wedding dresses in their design (the commonly met form is ‘saree’) are fully enriched by the diversity of Indian culture and tradition as every region is known to have its own dress code that is different in color and significance. For instance, the Northern areas, the Indian wedding dress is colored red or green to symbolize auspicious and lush. On the Southern side, the Indian wedding dress is colored in cream symbolizing purity and simplicity.

The Gujarati and Bengali tradition presents a combination of red and white saree that describes the individual culture and the artistic sense of perceiving life, also narrating about the life a newly wed woman enters into a brand new world.

But regardless of the region, the style of the Indian wedding dress has been the same since centuries. Sarees have been worn and still are during the wedding ceremonies holding the same elegance and richness with the difference that the pattern and the draping style have suffered a bit of change. This is how they have reached a presentation of various designs and styles easy to be recognized mostly in the Indian wedding dresses.

Among the fabrics that are commonly use in the structure of a saree are silk, Bandhani, kanchipuram, sequence work, zardosi work, brocade and patola. Along with the saree there is another popular Indian wedding dress known as salwar kammez that is more famous in the regions of the country called Punjab. This attire has suffered plenty of changes throughout times and as such we meet pattern, style and artistic work different than the ones in the past times.

The kameez (or kurti) is known to have a lot of adornment in the format of heavy embroidery, beadwork, crystal sewn motifs, and sequins. At the bottom they are rather loose, tied at the ankle with an embellished ribbon or heavy embroidery to adorn the hem that comes tight on the ankle. Dupatta is another piece of Indian wedding dress that is also adorned with motifs comprised in the kurti or can be as well simple presenting merely an eye catching border.
